Weekend quiz
I've seen quite a few creative boat names, and I must say that Second Life Sailors are just as creative as First Life Sailors. Here's three names I've seen in both worlds: "Second Wife", "Too Slow" and "Anadyomene". However, an old friend emailed me this, and it takes the name game just a step further...
And here's the quiz: What's it say? There's a bonus question for the Second Life Sailors: Where was the picture taken. Guessing the boat type is too easy, so no quiz there! Have a great weekend...

Weekendquiz
Recently I observed this at Tradewinds, so here's a simple weekendquiz... What is it?
Take a good look and tell me if you - like me - go WTF?! I like modern racers, but I also like those classic wooden boats. Here I get both merged into one and the same... Isn't that just sooo nice? Have a great weekend...

What's that?
I just saw these "spy-shots" a few days ago, and my immediate thought was: OMG! Is that a real live Flying Fizz??
So let's quiz... What do you think? Is it a real live Flying Fizz?
Is it just a couple of photoshopped pictures?
Or is it something entirely different that just happens to look a lot like a Flying Fizz?
What's' it gonna be?
1) A real Fizz
2) A fake picture
3) Something else
If you are unsure what a Flying Fizz is, then click the category Flying Fizz below here or see this post.

Weekend Quiz
One recent afternoon I saw something moored at Tradewinds that made my heart skip a few beats... That something was - ofcourse - a boat. It wasn't just any boat. It's not very big. It's not very fast. It's not very fancy, but it is very real:
In fact this boat is probably one of the rather few candidates nominated in the category "A normal boat". It's such a nice little sailboat with so many nice little details, including an outboard motor as is usually the case with boats this size.
I absolutely had to climb aboard and sniff around to see and feel just how real it is. Anyone wanna take a wild guess which boat I am talking about, - and what the RL counterpart is called?

Monday evening quiz
It's amazing what people will sail in RL. However, SL is only one step behind. I've sailed rafts, plywood cubes, leaf-boats, pumpkins and paperboats. Check this rather fantastic - ehmmm - vessel:
The hull doesn't exactly look fast, and the mast is too short, but still it moves like a cat. I wonder what's the expected top speed? It probably won't fit into any known VPPs. Anyone wanna take a wild guess on the top speed?

Monday morning quiz
For those of you out there feeling razor sharp on a monday morning: What's wrong in this picture?
I can think of at least five things...

What is this?
Quiz time... There are so many beautiful virtual boats available. Modern, classic, monohull, cats, big, small, one seaters and crewed... Manuls Ten is not alone, and the barre seems to be raised by the month.

A pretty thirty-something
Yesterday I was at Tradewinds where this baby was docked. It's very pretty, don't you agree? It just sat there. No one around. Not even the owner. Regretfully I didn't get to sail it. However, I did sneak on board and get a good look.

Quite a lot of details
So here's the questions: What is it. Does it have a real life replica, and if so, has anyone sailed a real one. I know I've never seen on in real life, but I do hope there is a real one.

Dinghy quiz
There are so many beautiful boats to sail on the virtual oceans; This time I was just walking around the piers, thinking about windsystems, when I stumbled upon a - to me - completely unknown boat. It was so pretty I simply had to stop and look. Here it is:

Pretty pretty
It only took me a few seconds to realize that these lines had to come from a real boat. I looked inside and found the name of the builder. Called him up, and sure enough, - it's a remake of a real boat. One that I never saw or heard of. Probably because it is manufactured at the other end of Europe. The southern parts (1).

Yummy
The real boat is a dinghy; It is pretty obvious from the looks too, so I was kinda surprised to see a keeler script running this baby, creating the sailing experience. The builder told me it is because, he builds mostly for himself; It is not a commercial product, and the current sailing script was easy to fit. However, the sailing script of this 12 footer (2) can easily be swapped with something more sophisticated.

A dinghy with a keeler feel?
It is a pretty thing allright. In fact the class name has a french ring to it, and it kinda translates to "thingie" (3). It is a pretty simple thingie too. There is only a main, and it looks beautiful under sail. I hope to sail it sometime soon. There are videos on youtube with the real version. I won't link there, because that would make the quiz a bit too easy, right... So there it is: Three hints. What is it, and how many hints did it take for you to guess it?
Update: Since Bea guessed it, here's a link to a Truc12 video. Incidentally, what's with the stupid music on all those boat commercials? I'd much rather hear the sailing sound...

Weekend quiz
It's quiz time again. Yesterday, when I logged in to check my messages, I found the most amazing boat; It is probably the most fresh, fancy, up to date, modern design boat I have ever seen in the virtual waters of SL. Just have a look:
It is not very big. I'd say around 12 meters overall. Obviously a very modern design, - that includes the keel. It is not extremely wide bodied, as can be seen on this next shot. Two steering wheels for optimum steering, sitting on the side, but... they are moderately sized and not far apart.
Now, steering wheels are not nearly as good as a tiller. Never. It is always a practical solution made to save space. Notice how bigger racing boats begin to have tillers, lately! Most 37ft family cruisers have wheels. The DS37 Matchracer - made for racing - has a tiller, and it is amazing how you can throw 37ft around with that. You can easily wipe the foredeck clean with just by moving your hand. That's called maneuvrability.
The boat looks racy, but since it is around 12 meters, there's enough room for crucial "life support systems" down below. No detailed photos yet. It is work in progress, but what we have here is clearly a weekend cruiser disguised as a fancy day sailor, - and with a very modern shape. I like that.
My first thought was Micro-Wally, but no it is not. When I say it is probably the most fancy and modern virtual boat I've seen for long, it is not entirely true. There is one other, - built by a german boat builder, and it is precisely a pocket sized Wally. Never released. You might wanna search for Wally Yacht images and see some amazing boats.
Back on track. If this is not a Micro-Wally, then what is it? It is definately something I want to own and sail, but that's another story. Rene tells me it is made after a real boat, so here's the weekend quiz: Does anyone know the country, designer, size and name of the vessel... anyone?

Distinguished class
Craig of the Ktaba tribe has gone and done something very nice and very extraordinary. Something seen only on a few very special virtual boats sailing the SL waters.
The Ktaba 20 now enters the distinguished class of boats with... Can you spot it?
(Hint: Even the brand new and super delicious Melges 24 hasn't got this feature. Naahnee naanee naanaa ;-)

What's this?
For the sail-geeks... here's a shot of me sailing. It's a truly gorgeous sailing day in a very well made replica of a real boat. So SL sailors might have an advantage, but true RL sailgeeks should have a chance too.
The questions are:
1) What am I sailing?
2) Where am I?
3) What is the RL name of that structure straight ahead?
... and there is a bonus question for the virtual sailors:
What is my approximate course?
