Next big thing

A summerquiz for my sailing savvy friends: What is this, and will it be the next big thing in sailing?

Bonus questions for the virtual sailors: Is it a job for Craigs Kitchen? He certainly could do it. Trudeau will probably not touch it, as it isn't wooden. Maybe it is more of a Mesh Shop thing. Any thoughts? Any bets?

  1. FARR Super 12 (12M) going to sail in the SF bay in 2017, and although called a 12M its not built to the 12M rule,

    1. It certainly will be interesting to see if this takes off. As exciting those weird plastic critters from AC are, they still don't resemble sailing as most people know it. It is hard to imagine they would ever become classics, but hey... we'll see about that. In the meantime, this Super 12 thing seems to offer classic sailboat race with a modern touch... or is it modern sailboat race with a classic touch?

  2. I was gonna say it looks modern, fast and big. Maybe too big to be the next big thing. Funny how ppl think it has to be big to be good. I always preferred small boats where you can feel every little ripple on top of the waves.

    1. I agree with you, Netrom. Sailing dinghies and small boats have their special charm. In SL a smaller and slower boat is actually an advantage, because you region crossings less frequently and the slower pace makes the water areas feel bigger. :)

Despite of that, the FARR boat above looks beautiful, even if it's not a classic wooden sailboat.
